Going Back to Our Roots

A Letter from Our Founder

Come 2026, Survivor Cards' nonprofit status will lapse, HOWEVER, the work is not done. We are simply going "back to our roots" and returning to our grassroots structure.

If you've ever started a nonprofit, you know the yearly upkeep costs are HUGE. Just to have nonprofit status and 501c3 (tax-free) status, file your taxes and all the forms is nearly $3000 and we've never gotten that much in d-nations to make it worth the cost.

We want to be taken seriously, as a pillar of hope, healing and solidarity to survivors everywhere. An organization that other organizations trust, partner with and create change. However, it's become clear that under this current administration, with the crackdowns on nonprofits, funding and DEI, we must return to our "scrappiness" if we're to survive and continue this hard work.

I appreciate everyone who's been beside me during this journey and I'm excited to continue to offer these little pieces of hope to survivors of trauma around the globe now more than ever.

Sincerely,

Alyson Wick, Founder of Survivor Cards

Going Back to Our Roots 🌱

After a turbulent year for survivors and nonprofits alike, we have made the choice to go back to being a grassroots organization in 2026.

This means that we will be allowing our nonprofit status to lapse so that 100% of funds can be directed to survivors and their needs!

Don't worry - this vital work continues!

What Does This Mean for Donors? 💸

Nothing really! You will still be able to give towards the work that we do and we are still happy to provide receipts for where funds go! You just won't be able to claim it on your taxes come tax time (2027)

We simply won’t be spending thousands of dollars to retain nonprofit and 501c3 (tax-free status) anymore. The majority of our supplies are provided by individuals anyway and our only true costs are usually for shipping and our website domain. This means we can direct resources, mutual aid and fill more needs without limitations.

I'm New Here...What Exactly Is A Survivor Card? 🤔

Hope. Healing. Solidarity.

Each Survivor Card is a trauma-informed, volunteer-written message to invoke these feelings in each recipient.

They are intended for survivors of trauma of any kind, include resources to get help, as well as some snail mail, self-care goodies.

They’re anonymous, mailed discreetly and tangible so survivors have something physical that shows them they’re cared for.
